Moratorium on cross-border dog trade

Great news for dogs in Asia!
With rabies being such concern in Asia, a ground breaking meeting in Hanoi saw the members of ACPA (Asian Canine Protection Alliance) meeting together with the government authorities of Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos, discussing the dog meat issue and potential rabies implications as a result of cross border trade.
ACPA is made up of Change For Animals Foundation, Humane Society International, Animals Asia and Soi Dog Foundation and, after a two-day meeting, we agreed with the officials to consider a five-year moratorium on the commercial transport of dogs from one country to another to end the inhumane trade in dogs for meat.
With grateful thanks to all who attended this productive meeting and looking forward to the recommendations being made at the conference now being fully followed through.
