Together, we are making Moon Bear Day 2020 the biggest and best yet!
08 August 2020
Today, Saturday 8 August, Animals Asia and its many supporters across the globe will come together to celebrate #MoonBearDay! Join a host of celebrities and other like-minded people in helping Animals Asia to make real and lasting change for the beautiful moon bear.
What is Moon Bear Day?
A day dedicated to raising awareness of the world’s most exploited bear; the Asiatic black bear, also known as the moon bear. Supporters of all ages take part in a host of activities and events to raise awareness of the plight of the moon bear, and raise funds to continue the tireless work of Animals Asia in rescuing them and in seeking to end their exploitation forever. This year the theme is: #TheOnlyCureIsKindness.
How is the moon bear exploited?
For many years, the loving and playful moon bear has been - and continues to be - abused on a mass scale in the entertainment industry and for bear bile farming. They are kept in isolated, cramped conditions, often for decades, and suffer both physically and psychologically.
How does Animals Asia help moon bears?
Since our inception in 1998, Animals Asia has rescued over 600 moon bears and sun bears in Vietnam and China to our two purpose-built bear sanctuaries where the bears receive continuous physical and psychological rehabilitation. In 2017, the Vietnam government agreed to work with Animals Asia to end bear bile farming in the country and rescue the remaining 438 bears still held captive in bile farms.
You may have heard the exciting news announced earlier this week, that Animals Asia had rescued two tiny bear cubs from the illegal wildlife trade. These two bundles of joy, nicknamed Amh and Em (meaning big brother and little sibling in Vietnamese), were bought by a local man because “they looked so sad in their tiny cage”. Once procured, he immediately handed them over to Animals Asia.
Amh and Em are only now safe and will live a full and happy life, thanks to people like you!
We can’t do what we do without our supporters
Yesterday, we introduced some of our amazing supporters across the world who raise awareness and essential funds through innovative and exciting ways so Animals Asia can carry out its work to end bear bile farming.
Today, we’d like to officially recognise and thank our incredible celebrity supporters who have done and continue to do so much to raise awareness for the animals through Animals Asia’s campaigns! Your generosity has had a real and lasting impact on the lives of so many animals and will continue to do so for many years to come.

A message from our founder:
“Thanks for supporting our campaign. Covid-19 has been a wake-up call for change, and our work in Vietnam shows change is entirely possible. We can put an end to the abject disregard for animals that has caused so much suffering, and create a better world. And there is no greater force for good than the power of kindness in action.” Jill Robinson MBE, Dr med vet hc, Hon LLD Founder and CEO, Animals Asia
